With only three Makena Condos located within the South Maui, Makena Resort area, Makena Surf holds a special place for many reasons. At least in my eyes it clearly wins the popularity contest, if there would ever be an official mentioning like that in the future. So what is so special about Makena Surf? Why actually is this Makena Oceanfront Condo Complex so unique?
Let’s start with the competition. The Wailea Resort is governed by the Wailea Community Association that “ties” all Wailea Condos and Wailea Homes together. There is nothing like that for the Makena Resort. No need with only three Makena Condos! The Polo Beach Club is an eight-story high-rise building at the southern end of the Wailea walkway. Though the address is Makena, the location almost makes for Wailea. Then there is Na Hale O Makena, the quaint and small complex, more modern Hawaiian style, but not on the ocean and not available for vacation rental.
Makena Surf covers just over 15 oceanfront acres, bordering two secluded beaches. The larger Poolenalena Beach right in front of building B to the north and the petite hidden Secret Beach to the south. The middle portion of the complex outside of buildings E and F, is fronting a gorgeous green lawn above the black lava rock that actually forms Maui. At night it gets dark. What am I saying? It gets black! You can see the Milky Way and watch for shooting stars. The moon feels unbelievably bright down here. Romantic and unforgettable.
The most popular buildings are B and E, but buildings F and G are also oceanfront locations. These four buildings are making up the majority of Makena Surf. There are a total of 108 units, yet, only 21 one of them are located in the newer, two-story back row buildings A and C. The tropical and well cared for vegetation of Makena Surf gives any visitor the true feeling of the so desired Hawaiian Vacation. There are two historical sites on the property and the lay of the land is gently sloped.
The beaches around Makena Surf are hidden from the road. Most people are simply driving by, following the Resort Hotel Concierge’s directions down to famous Big Beach. Great! They are missing paradise, it’s right here. Amenities are limited to two pools each with Jacuzzi, four tennis courts AND the most important thing, THE Pacific Ocean. The sound of the waves is ever present and you will have to get used to it at night. If you are looking for shopping, hula, restaurants and the cocktail waitress, this is not your spot! Makena Surf is all about peace and tranquility.
And from the Maui Real Estate point of view? Makena Surf offers non-replaceable values for any of the owners. No matter what kind of Makena Real Estate will be built in the future, it won’t be any new Makena Condo like this. Maui is an island and there is simply no such land left! During this “difficult economic year of 2009″, a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom unit, 1500 square feet, sold in January for $3,550,000.00 after only 53 days on the market. The number of total sales since January 2000 runs pretty low with only 46 closed sales in almost 10 years. Interesting also that 2008 AND 2009 to date are only showing one sale each.
There are currently six properties listed in the Maui MLS. To see all the listing details, please visit this link for Makena Surf. My weekly Sales Reports are displaying a down loadable pdf form of the latest CMA. The Makena Surf Plat Map will help you to locate any individual unit. I am available for a guided tour of this unique Makena Condo, unless you don’t give me enough notice and I decided to go surfing! Aloha, VW
