REO is the simple acronym for the senseless words "Real Estate Owned". Also listed as Distressed Maui Properties, it in essence has the same meaning for a Maui Real Estate Buyer as the more common words Maui Foreclosures or Bank Owned Maui Properties. Like elsewhere, Foreclosures are a process applied to mortgage loans, after the owner has failed to comply with the payment agreement between the lien holder and said owner. Basically, the owner stopped making mortgage payments and is in default.
